OUR MISSION

We are shaping the next generation of storytellers by empowering their voices through broadcast journalism, film and multimedia education.

Founded in 1999 by a group of visionary teachers, Student Television Network was established to support and encourage scholastic broadcasting while providing a collaborative forum for educators to share ideas, ask questions, and learn from industry professionals. Over the past 25 years, STN has expanded its focus to include film, multimedia, and other forms of communication, taught to students in grades 6-12 across middle and high schools worldwide. STN is dedicated to serving teachers and students with year-round support, such as curriculum, career and leadership programs, mentorship, and competitive opportunities.

Key Components of STN

  • Leadership Development: STN competitions serve as a platform for leadership development among students by offering roles that require initiative, decision-making, and team management. Participating in these events allows students to take charge of projects, navigate challenges, and lead their peers toward common goals. This hands-on experience is invaluable, helping students develop confidence and leadership skills that are critical in both academic and professional settings.

  • Student-Led Competitions: STN hosts numerous competitions throughout the school year to engage students not only develop technical and creative skills but also gain valuable leadership and career readiness experiences, making STN an integral part of their educational journey.

  • Curriculum and Professional Development: STN provides supplemental curriculum for teachers designed to prepare students for our monthly industry-inspired competitions. It provides educators with specialized resources, such as lesson plans and video tutorials, focused on advanced media production techniques and competitive strategies.

  • Career Readiness: STN's programs offer real-world experiences that enhance students' technical and creative skills while fostering professional abilities

and mindsets. This preparation emphasizes practical skills, strategic thinking, and teamwork, equipping students for successful careers in media and communications.

  • Collaborative Community: STN fosters a supportive community, offering a mentorship program that connects new teachers with seasoned media educators. This initiative enhances teaching strategies, integrates industry-standard technology in the classroom, and fosters a collaborative environment for sharing best practices in media education.

In 2004, STN held its first convention in Los Angeles, bringing together students and teachers for several days of education, competition, and networking with industry professionals. The convention has grown significantly, attracting over 3,000 attendees every year.
